Heavens Special Child

A meeting was held quite far from earth,

"It's time again for another birth"

Said the Angels to the Lord above,

"This special child will need much love.

His progress may seem slow,

Accomplishments he may not show,

And he'll require extra care,

From folks he meets way down there."

"He may not run, laugh or play,

His thoughts may seem quite far away.

In many ways he won't adapt,

And he'll be known as handicapped"

"So let's be careful where he's sent,

We want his life to be content,

Please Lord find the parents who,

Will do this special job for you."

"They will not realize it right away,

The special role they're asked to play.

But with this child sent from above,

Comes a richer much stronger love."

"Soon they'll know the privilege given,

In caring for this gift from heaven,

Their precious gift meek and mild,

He is Heavens Special Child"

A few years ago at the Seattle Special Olympics,

nine contestants, all physically or mentally

disabled, assembled at the starting line for the

100-yard dash. At the gun, they all started out,

not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run

the race to the finish and win. All, that is, except

one boy who stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled

over a couple of times and began to cry. The

other eight heard the boy cry. They slowed

down and looked back. They all turned around

and went back. Everyone of them. One girl

with Down's Syndrome bent down and kissed

him and said, "This will make it better." All

nine linked arms and walked across the finish

line together.
Everyone in the stadium stood,

and the cheering
went on for several minutes.

People who were there
are still telling the story.

Why?
Because deep down we know this one

thing:
What matters in this life is more than

winning for ourselves.

What truly matters in this life is helping

others win,

even if it means slowing down and changing

our course.

A very sweet lady called Tracey -
Screen name ILOVEALOHA,
sent me this wonderful story.
I just had to share it with you *Smile*
